The main issue is the GMC is 8 lug (3/4 ton?) with a brand new disc brake kit on the front and BRAND new aluminum wheels and new tires.

This is good although the spring looks like it may coil bind. The amount of travel the spring has can be calculated very easy. 1) With the car at ride height measure the distance between the coils. Let’s say it is .125” 2) Count how many coil spring “gaps” there are. Let’s say there are 10 gaps.
The coil springs must be compressed before you undo the bolt at the top of the strut. This is one of the most dangerous parts of vehicle maintenance and the spring can uncoil and do serious harm. Use the compression brackets at 180 degrees, opposite each other on the spring and tighten them evenly with about 8 – 10 turns each before swapping.
